Interview: Kelly Reverb Talks About Growing Up Musical, Dance Music Passion, and Future Plans

Kelly Reverb has just unleashed a epic 2-track EP. "La Isla Bonita (Madonna On Acid)" takes Madonna’s iconic hit to new heights, blending influences from Miami Music Week and a memorable Madonna concert in Dallas. Alongside this, the Latin-infused "Coming Back" brings a fresh, energetic pulse to the dancefloor, fusing classic vibes with modern beats.

Kelly's story begins in Dallas, Texas. He carved out a niche at The Lizard Lounge, where his house and breakbeat mix captured the underground scene's spirit. From there, he moved on to bigger stages, playing at Home Base, Tunnel NYC, and The Clevelander Miami.

Kelly's achievements are impressive. His tracks are climbing the Beatport charts, featured in the film 'Blade,' and he’s shared stages with big names like Carl Cox, Dada Life, and EDX. He also founded Lone Star Records, releasing his tracks and collaborating with other artists. Kelly Reverb is back, and he's bringing the heat.

Kelly Reverb provided an exclusive chat to WEDM, see the full interview below.

Exclusive Interview with Kelly Reverb

Did you grow up in a musical family or have any classical training when you were young?

100% My Dad played the piano, guitar, banjo, and the upright bass to name a few. We were always listing to music from my sister’s Van Halen & Disco, to my Dad’s Neil Diamond & the Beatles

Why dance music? What are you favorite sub-genres of electronic music and why?

House, Nu Disco, Afro House, Tech House, Progressive.. Love the ability to play a pool party during the day, and then bring the heat to a prime time club or festival setting.

If you weren’t working in music, what do you think you would be doing?

I love doing my podcast on recovery & mental health (thispinkcloud.com) but separate from that, I would probably be a locksmith… sounds fun (getting paid and helping people)

We loved hearing about your compelling story and want to hear some more about it from you firsthand. How do you think you hitting “rock bottom” allowed you to out the other side even stronger today?

It’s kind of “been there, done that” situation. I never realized how much time and energy was wasted until I became sober, it was literally like a second job. Don’t get me wrong, I’m no teetotaler, but self awareness is a good trait (know your limits). Heck, let’s be honest, we make music for people to party!!!

Your new EP was just released. What do these two songs mean to you and what’s the story behind it?

This was my welcome to Summer time release, pool vibes or late night friendly.

Can you pick 3 DJs that you’d love to play a back-to-back set with?

Dom Dolla, Maceo Plex (electro set), David Tort, Blond:ish, and Solomun… was that 3? Lol

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Hopefully co headlining and or collaborating with aforementioned. Chad LeMans and I are going dark with the next ep, and then our nu disco release on Dim Mak!
